Middle Game by Sean Michael

Book two in the Chess series

Can Jason be with three amazing men and not lose his heart in the process?

Living with and being the playtoy of three men is more rewarding than Jason could have imagined. Bishop, Knight and Rook each have their own way of loving on him. In Bishop he finds a workout partner, friendship, and good solid lovemaking. He isn’t sure what to make of Knight, but the man is a brilliant artist and there are worse things than being Knight’s subject for his latest series of paintings. And the kinky things Knight does to him blow his mind on a regular basis.

It’s Rook who Jason is falling in love with, though. The bright, loving, sexy man has him head over heels and Jason’s beginning to worry that he’s getting himself in way over his head. Can he continue to be with these men without losing his heart?

The Chess series

Can a working threesome find a fourth to help them balance their lives? Rook, Knight and Bishop believe so.

The happy threesome know there's something missing and when they find Jason, they're pretty sure he's just what they need.

Join these four sexy men as they explore the dynamics between them and work toward finding a happy ending of their very own.

About Sean Michael

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organising his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and pursuing the kama sutra by channelling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago".

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

Meh. I keep hoping for more depth, but it's not happening. Just lots and lots of sex. Rook and Jason are sweet together, though.

Middle Game Chess Book 2 edition by Sean Michael Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This one was just as steamy as the first book, however I don't know if I like the way this one goes. It's more like 2 couples sharing than a foursome. Don't get me wrong the story is good, but instead of a true foursome you only get maybe one or two scene's in the book where it isn't Bishop/Knight and Rook/Jason, or the four of them playing. I would love to see some sort of bonding with Jason and Knight, and Jason and Bishop. It will be interesting as the series continues to see how the relationships continue to develope and see how Jason comes to terms with his feelings.

I am hooked on this series! I love these four men, they each bring something different to the relationship and man oh man is there a lot of hot sex. My favorite character Rook just makes me smile and I wish I had a Rookie of my own! In this book the men get closer but not as close as Jason and Rook, Jason realizes he loves Rook and doesn’t know what he is going to do with that information.
Characters well written and easy to love
Sex oh yes
Religious no
Would I recommend to others yes
More than one book in the series yes
Genre M/M/M/M Romance
Would I read more by this author yes

Middle Game is a continuation of the story between Bishop, Knight, Rook and Jason. It's moved on from the beginning. Jason has moved into the house, he's agreed to be the boys play thing. Jason is a little unnerved by his level of comfort. He's never been with a man, let alone three, but each of them offer something different to Jason. What is the most unexpected is his feelings for Rook. Can he continue staying there knowing how he feels? Will the guys be able to let him leave?

I am loving this series. I love seeing the dynamic between each of the men. They each have a different and extremely sexy relationship. I can't wait to see where the rest of the series takes the guys.

Rating 7/10

PROS
- We get a more solid picture in this installment of how each of the men complements each of the others, how each man brings something different to the relationship.
- I like that Jason is forming different sorts of attachments to the three other men, and that he’s growing the attachments at different speeds. He’s happily falling head over heels for Rook, becoming friends with Bishop, and admits at one point that he doesn’t even “particularly *like* Knight,” but he’s intrigued by the man. This feels realistic to me.
- The relationship between Bishop and Knight is a little unusual, but I like it. I like that Knight is always fighting Bishop so hard, but when it comes down to it, Knight knows that things won’t stop unless he uses his safeword.

CONS
- The “for hire” situation provided an excuse for Jason to get into a relationship with the other three men, but it also means that he has in the back of his mind, always, that he’s not their true partner. This makes parts of the book a little sad.
- The characters here are very similar to other Sean Michael characters, but that might not be noticeable unless you read a lot from this author like I do.

Overall comments I’m sure the “Jason doesn’t feel like he fits in” issue will be resolved in a later installment in the series, so at the moment I’m not too bothered by it. But this volume doesn’t end on a particularly high note. Overall, though, I still like the characters and what I feel to be a pretty honest portrayal of a poly relationship.
4 Stars – 5 Flames

Are you really considered a play toy when you’re living happily ever after? At least, that’s the way I see things for Jason. Sure, three different lovers play him with, but it’s not like he isn’t enjoying every minute.

The thing I liked most about this installment was that there was a little more of a storyline to it. Jason loved all three of them, but it was Rook he’s falling IN love with. After a game of truth or dare, Jason starts to question if “being a play toy” is really something his heart can handle.

We get a little more Knight in this one, which I really enjoyed. We also get to see a little more of the relationship between Bishop and Knight. I can now see why they wanted Jason for Rook, even though they all seem to have enough love for one another.

Basically, you’re getting just a little more of each character, a little more storyline and a LOT MORE intense scenes. Make sure you see the flame rating!

I love absolutely everything about the series. I like all the men and how different their personalities are. I especially love all the steamy scenes this book has.
Love Sean Micheal. Purchased all three of the Chess series. Love all three...if you read one you'll want to read the other two.
Meh. I keep hoping for more depth, but it's not happening. Just lots and lots of sex. Rook and Jason are sweet together, though.
